The Abington Leos were a singular entity until 1963. In that year, a Leo club was formed at the Tamaqua Area High School in Pennsylvania. Shortly thereafter, a former Philadelphia Lion formed a Leo club in New York. By 1964, there were 27 Leo clubs in Pennsylvania and one in New York.
Leo Clubs are internationally known organisations affiliated to Lions International and are specifically geared at young people who:
are interested in meeting new people
want to make a difference in their community
are interested in developing leadership skills, want to gain experience & opportunity
enjoy having fun whilst confidently undertaking service projects within society
The primary focus of any Leo club is to do various projects within their community, and thereby have a positive effect on the lives of individuals within the community. Because Leos are young individuals we target most of our projects on the younger generation, but still actively support all other projects.
